We look at the Verisign DomainScope to track the most popular keywords in domain registrations. I’ll look at some surprises, the always strong tried and true words and then the recently popular increasing strings.
But an unlikely word shows up when looking over the last 90 days…and the winner is YatiVip. Its the latest in a series of words we posted about last year that can go from zero to up to 3-5k or more registrations in a single day. Great for Godaddy and Verisign.
Last November it was yayuvip and yaqibet doing 15,000 and 30,000 names.
So what is it? Who knows? The landers are almost always generic godaddy landers. My best guess is these names are being used for bulk email. The only search results for this words are the sites that track most registered keywords.
The Legacy Most Popular – The Old Standbys
The old standbys always show up by default and the top 9 are about the same.

Interesting to note when big registrations groups happen – shooting a normally strong keyword like health to do almost 1200 in a single day (December 24th), up from its average of 350. (See below) Likewise, “tech” jumped to 1324 on January 13th, up from a daily average of about 750. But if you look at the above chart, you can see certain days bring big registration numbers for every word. My take is this is either just capital being committed, or registrars offering incentives and the most popular words get their share… and lower numbers are weekends.
So looking again at the above for the past 90 days, when you look at these keywords you can see some of the recent registrations to the right. Its no surprise you see three words, and misspells and substitutes and lessor word combos. So you can see someone thought HealthiestTowninAmerica.net was the best they could get and went for it. The two surprises over the past 90 days are the “gated” and “iag”, which like the lead chart above for yaqibet, seem to have some massive bumps, especially for unused sites.
Domain Keywords Trending Higher
As we look at some words dominating the current news cycle, I looked for those related to the worldwide corona virus and politics. “Corona” and “virus” are the green and orange. “Mask” was a big gainer this week and “virus” re-emerged and peaked again. In politics “Bloomberg” jumped up against what was happening the previous 60 days, as did “Bernie”. I have shown the past 90 days so you can see the bumps versus the past 90 days.
You can see their peaks on late January from the below chart from Verisign DomainScope.
Now that Verisign has stopped publishing their trending keywords list, lets try to crowd source a list. Contribute below what other words you think should be on the list and I’ll publish them in groups of 5 and grant the winner special props and cheers.
